Six weeks ago, reigning champion Courtney Stevens addressed the league with a message that could be fairly summarized as: the crown is mine, and nothing that happens this season will change that. Six weeks later, the record itself backs her up — it's the rest of the picture that has gotten complicated.

All Gas No Drakes sits at a perfectly respectable 4–2, tied for the best record in the league, following back-to-back losses, the most recent a 126.98-to-89.04 defeat at the hands of Chad Acevedo's Bass To Mouth in Week 6. The team's 709.70 points for ranks seventh in the league, though — solidly middle of the pack, a marked step down from the dominance the franchise displayed in its 2025 title run, and a sign the record may be running ahead of the actual performance.

Compounding matters: Courtney leads the league outright in shotguns owed, with three on the season, including two empty lineup slots in a single Week 5 outing that league rules count the same as any zero-point performance. A champion drinking more than anyone else in the league is, at minimum, a narrative inconvenience.

None of this amounts to a crisis. A share of first place with six weeks remaining is about as good a position as a title defense can ask for, and Courtney's roster has shown the kind of week-to-week ceiling that won a title a year ago. But the open letter promised dominance with, at most, a minor administrative issue. Two straight losses, a middling points-for total, and a league-leading beer count is a larger administrative issue than advertised. The throne hasn't fallen. It is, for the first time all season, visibly wobbling — even if the standings haven't noticed yet.
