It is, by multiple league accounts, not a secret: Stephen Liao considers himself the favorite to win the 2026 LFSP championship. He has said so, repeatedly, in the league group chat, after wins and — on at least one occasion — after a loss. This publication decided to check.

The case for Stephen is real. Javaris Jamarr Javarison-Lamar sits at 4–2, second in the league with 814.66 points for, just 5.12 behind the top seed. By any reasonable measure, this is a top-tier team entering the back half of the season. The numbers do not embarrass him.

The case against the specific framing of "the favorite," singular, definite article, is that four other teams currently share an almost identical profile. Nguyenning has outscored him. Rashee-d For Speed and The McGriddle Stack match his record exactly. Bass To Mouth has outscored everyone in the league not already mentioned. "The favorite" implies separation from the pack. The pack, this week, does not agree to be separated from.

Reached for comment, Stephen reportedly reiterated his position without elaboration, a pattern consistent with his public statements throughout the season. Our predictive model was less diplomatic: "G.R.I.D. 9000 currently projects Stephen Liao as a legitimate championship contender. Unfortunately, Stephen also projects Stephen Liao as a legitimate championship contender, a coincidence that has reduced the model's confidence in its own calculations."

None of this means Stephen is wrong. It means he is one of at least five owners who could make the same claim with equal statistical footing, and he is, by a wide margin, the only one saying it out loud every week.
